News of the launch of Qantas plane

Qantas and Boeing have unveiled the most complex paint job ever undertaken on a plane to celebrate one of Australia's most famous indigenous artists. It took 10 days and - for the first time - Boeing used paintbrushes to recreate the textures of the late WA artist Paddy Bedford. Done in partnership with Australian designers Balarinji.

Dick Roughsey OBE (about 1920–85) is recognised as an important Lardil artist and storyteller. The board's second chairman, Wandjuk Marika OBE (1927–87), is recognised as an important Rirratjingu artist and was a respected leader of Yirrkala

Ray Thomas has won the overall Deadly Award in the Victoria Indigenous Art Awards 2013 for a portrait of his 94-year-old mother, a Gunnai elder.

Yirrkala Drawings, 1947, in Sydney

In 1947, senior ceremonial leaders at Yirrkala in north-east Arnhem Land produced hundreds of vibrant crayon drawings on paper for the anthropologists Ronald and Catherine Berndt, which are now held at the Berndt Museum of Anthropology at the University of Western Australia.
